Beautiful spaces are important—but lasting client relationships are built on something deeper. In this episode, Kimberley Seldon talks with interior designer Kate Marker about why the most successful designers focus on how clients want to feel in their homes, not just how those homes look.
Kate shares how asking strategic questions, listening actively, and building trust through transparency allows designers to uncover what truly matters to clients. By understanding mood, emotion, and lifestyle, designers can create spaces that resonate deeply—and relationships that last long after the project ends.
This conversation is a reminder that great design isn’t just visual—it’s relational.

DESIGN INTERVENTION
The best piece of advice I ever received is to be confident and trust yourself first. In the interior design business, prioritizing relationships over transactions is key. When you believe in your abilities, clients will too, which strengthens connections and leads to more successful projects. This mindset shift was transformative for me, fostering deeper client relationships and a fulfilling career.
