Prop styling is an art unto itself, as every design professional knows. Getting the setting right and offering an authentic glimpse into the client’s home is the best way to create photos that appeal to your new and ideal clients.
In this episode we learn:
- to learn the skill, assist a stylist who has experience
- designing and styling are two different talents—bring a stylist in before a home is photographed so they can give it that lived in look with accessories, art, books, flowers, pillows, and throws
- projects should feel realistic to achieve the biggest impact
- it’s important to shoot your best projects even when work is slow
- find a place to keep inspiration ideas so you’ll have them when the time comes
DESIGN INTERVENTION

Make sure that you make your client aware that these additions will incur more time and money. In the early days, I used to keep exactly to the budget, sometimes digging into my own pocket. Don’t do this!
