Listen Now

Are you leading your interior design business with confidence — or letting fear make the decisions?

In this episode, Kimberley Seldon explores the mindset, leadership, and support systems required to run a successful interior design business. Joined by Holly, Phoebe, and Justine, Kimberley discusses the importance of confidence, delegation, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

Running a business requires courage, resilience, and the willingness to ask for help. This conversation highlights how building a trusted community and leaning into your strengths can help interior designers grow stronger, more sustainable businesses.

In this episode, we learn:
• Why interior designers need to recognize and own their expertise and value
• How fear and insecurity can negatively impact business decisions
• Why giving away your power can hold your business back
• How the right professional community can function like a personal board of directors
• Why asking for help is a strength, not a weakness
• How delegation allows designers to focus on their highest-value work
• Why removing tasks you dislike or aren’t skilled at improves efficiency and profitability
• How confidence and community support help interior designers build stronger businesses

Justine Sterling

Justine’s journey began almost 30 years ago in Cape Town, South Africa. A graduate of Cape Technikon School of Art and Design, she found a home in interiors due to her love of art, organization and the inherent nature of finding structure in chaos. Innovative and prestigious firms have driven her career. She worked in the interior design field as a hospitality designer in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and after moving to the United States in 1999, furthered her career in corporate design in the world of interior architecture.

When she became a mom in 2008, her need for effective space planning went into overdrive and Justine Sterling Design was born. The same structure, effective space planning, and intention-filled interiors she used in commercial projects suddenly had new meaning in her own home. Justine has a portfolio of residential projects which vary from small, urban condominium redesigns to kitchen renovations to entire home remodeling endeavors. She has one full time employee and a purchasing and expediting team.
