EP 358 | Client Talk, How to Work with a Designer with Robin McLendon
January 9, 2024
Listen Now
As a left-brained creative, having a process and set of procedures is instrumental for success, says Robin McLendon. Robin is not an interior design professional. Instead, she’s a client and she has lots to say about working with professionals who do not have a system like the BOD™ 15, which allows them to run projects in an orderly fashion.
In this episode we learn:
- don’t ask the client what she needs or is looking for, instead tell her what you think she needs based on her project goals
- tell clients how they can help make the job and the project more successful
- tell the client where the boundaries are (like how Kimberley reserves text messages for friends and family only)
- don’t make the client micromanage the designer
- if you give your word on something, then keep it
DESIGN INTERVENTION
If you say yes to something, you are saying no to something else. Be intentional with your time and ruthless with managing your energy.
